Thomas Shakespear worked on the Santiago to Puerto Montt railroad as manager of Rancagua station just down the line from Santiago, on a section of railroad originally inaugurated in 1859. This brief diary, 1899-1902, records details of track and train maintenance and the management of his workmen. Has pictures and ephemera of interest.
• The Antofagasta (Chile) and Bolivia Railway Company: A Company History. Key section is the one on "Railroad Origins in the 19th Century". Shows clearly the joined interests of railways/mining/ Chilean expansion and British capital & engineers.
